Shell protection level (IP code) test

Time:2021-04-12 17:55Hits:446

The enclosure protection level (IP code) test shall be conducted in accordance with GB/T4208-2017 and IEC60529:2013 standards. The first digit is the dust level (0-6), and the second digit is (0-9).

Does the shell protection level test require electrification?

No, the electrical part can be removed during testing and only the shell can be used for testing, without assessing the integrity of electrical performance.

How long does the detection cycle for shell protection level testing take?

Waterproofing varies from 3 minutes to a few hours. (IP68) Grade 8 waterproof is a custom testing condition, with testing times ranging from 2 hours to 24 hours. IP67 waterproof testing requires 30 minutes. Overall, the waterproof test can be completed quickly. The dustproof test IP5X and IP6X need to be tested in a dust box for 8 hours. The difference is that IP5X does not require negative pressure, while IP6X requires negative pressure. The dustproof test below IP5X does not require entering the sand and dust box test. The test is conducted using a test finger and probe. The probe extends into the gap of the shell and does not touch the circuit part to pass the test. Overall, the testing cycle for the degree of protection provided by the enclosure takes 2 days.

How to determine whether the shell protection level test has been passed?

Dust proof test: IP1X~IP4X test probes can pass the test if they cannot touch the live parts, and IP5X~IP6X shells can pass the test if there is no dust entering the interior;

Waterproof test: IPX1~IPX8. After the waterproof test, if there are no water droplets entering the shell, it is determined to pass the test.

What preparations need to be made before testing the protection level of the shell?

Check if the door sealing gasket is complete, the door lock is sealed, the door hinge is sealed, and the outlet terminals are sealed. Some shell surfaces have screens, and the screen is waterproof. Additionally, you can test the waterproof test at the unit first. If the waterproof test is passed, the dust test is generally not a problem, and it is necessary to try it yourself.

Secondly, it is necessary to provide information such as the product name, model, unit name, address, etc. for issuing the testing report.

What kind of testing report is recognized by the public?

The cover of the shell protection level testing report is stamped with CNAS and Cma seals, so it is necessary to find a third-party testing institution recognized by the national laboratory for testing.
