NOM certification

The NOM (Normas Oficiales Mexico) symbol is a mandatory safety symbol in Mexico, used to indicate that the product complies with relevant NOM standards. The NOM logo is applicable to most products, including telecommunications and information technology equipment, household electrical appliances, lighting fixtures, and other products with potential health and safety hazards. Whether manufactured locally in Mexico or imported, products must comply with relevant NOM standards and product labeling regulations.

According to Mexican law, the licensee of NOM must be a Mexican company responsible for the quality, maintenance, and reliability of the product. The test report is issued by a laboratory recognized by SECOFI and reviewed by SECOFI, ANCE, or NYCE. If the product meets relevant regulatory requirements, a certificate is issued to the Mexican representative of the manufacturer or exporter in order for the product to bear the NOM mark.

Safety testing of NOM certification process for multiple products

·There are two verification units in Mexico that can issue NOMMarks

-NOMNYCE: The verification scope includes all electronic and information products and data processing equipment, but does not include household appliances (excluding microwave ovens)

·Not applicable to IEC standards, applicable to NOM standards

·No EMC testing required

2、 Technical Information

1. The voltage in Mexico is 127V/60Hz

2. The plug is the same as the American plug. One is ClassI with three connectors, and the other is ClassII with two connectors. The plug will be tested together with the device itself.

3、 Certificate issuance

·The certificate is valid for one year and can be updated annually

·When updating the certificate, it is necessary to randomly sample a product from the market in advance in order to send it to the laboratory for testing

·The product packaging should include the following information: product name, brand name, model number, and NOM verification mark

4、 Document requirements

·CB test report and certificate

·The name, address, and contact person of the importer or distributor in Mexico

·Test data, design drawings, specifications, and circuit diagrams

The original application company will receive a photocopy of the fax. The agent needs to properly keep the original certificate and report as reference materials for future inspection and use.

The difference between NOM flag and NMX flag

Firstly, different procedures are required

The NOM (Normas Oficiales Mexico) symbol is a mandatory safety symbol in Mexico, used to indicate that the product complies with relevant NOM standards. The NMX (Normas Mexico) standard is voluntary.

Secondly, the corresponding products are different

The NOM logo is applicable to most products, including telecommunications and information technology equipment, household electrical appliances, lighting fixtures, and other products with potential health and safety hazards. Whether manufactured locally in Mexico or imported, products must comply with relevant NOM standards and product labeling regulations. NMX is generally suitable for parts such as conductors, fuses, circuit breakers, lamp holders, and ballasts, for manufacturers to use as a reference; But when an NMX requirement becomes a reference to the NOM standard, it becomes a mandatory standard.
